I was very taken with these small yellow leaves as they slowly swirled down one of Amsterdam’s many canals. I liked the organic motion in contrast to the static straight lines of the building that was reflected in the water. Although the building was static – the waves in the water were animated it and fragmenting the reflection to bring motion to it. It reminded me of the Talking Heads song “Houses in Motion” from their seminal album “Remain In Light”.
The original idea for this image was a diptych with another photo taken on the opposite side of the canal where tree branches were reflected instead of buildings but I found the resulting image less interesting as it lacked the juxtaposition between natural forms and human made ones.
