An explosion of starlings over Brighton Marina in October 2018.
Around the end of October there are the most wonderful sunsets and blue skies at dusk in Brighton and huge murmurations of starlings can be regularly seen performing over the West Pier.
In Brighton Marina, they nest under the boardwalk with a dramatic aerial dance and making the most enormous echoey sound.
I was travelling a lot around Europe in 2018 making and exhibiting work and only had a few days at home, and just a single chance to take a shot of the birds coming into land.
This image is only a few seconds but captures a wonderful explosion of birds about to dive directly towards me.
It’s interesting to see the difference in wing patterns between the starlings and the three seagulls along the bottom of the horizon. The starlings are much smaller and are travelling much faster.
